“But nothing ever comes without a change/Welcome to your life”

Ain’t that the truth? Isn’t that what it’s all about? The whole idea of making lemonade when life gives you lemons is such a deceiving anecdote because life almost never gives you lemons. And you can’t ask for lemons either because life doesn’t have a phone number or a store front or any of those other easily accessible modern day luxuries. What it does have is shit you just have to deal with (like the $4 keyboard that I’m typing on right now, for example) but good or bad, lemonade or whiskey, the shit that life gives you is what your life is made up of and unless you go out and make a change to that shit then the shit that you’re stuck with will always be the shit that’s been given to you. Despite all this shit, you’re not stuck with it. You can turn this shit into sunshine. The chorus isn’t saying “welcome to your life” it’s saying “welcome to YOUR life, it COULD be your fantasy… but nothing ever comes without a change.”

So that’s what this song is to me. No matter what shit exists in my mind, by the time the ramp up to the final chorus kicks in it doesn’t matter because this is life, this the world and I can take the shit or I can change it into something real and something better. And then the second song of the album comes on and I get bored again…
